This album is without a doubt, Britney's best album. Not only is nearly ever song and b-side from this album absolutly PHONOMONAL, but it was a time when Britney was at her best, on top of her game. When I pull out this CD to play today, I just can't help but think of what a HUGE pop star this girl was at the time. This album is also the reason why I'm a Britney fan today. Had I not heard "I'm A Slave 4 U" on the radio or seen the HOT video on MTV, I would never have become a Britney fan. Up until this point I had always seen Ms. Spears as nothing but a "throw-away" pop star, whose final album would be "Oops! I Did It Again." And, fortunatly, I was dead wrong. Everything about this era puts a smile on my face. The hot music videos, the cute Pepsi commercials, the goofy and sweet interviews, the PHONOMAL live performances and Dream Within A Dream tour, the list goes on and on.
The thing I love about this album is how she just throws everything out there and just expierements with her sound. She took the risk of adding two guys that were better known for their work with people like Jay Z, Eminem, etc. And out of her sessions came the most un-sounding Britney song ever (up until that point) I'm A Slave 4 U. It is arguibly not only one of the greatest tracks in her career, but also most important. Had it not been for Slave, she would still be singing "...Baby One More Time" or "Oops! I Did It Again." All I can say is, thank GOD for the Neptunes!!!
ON-THE-CHART - Britney's peak chart postions on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart:
I'm A Slave 4 U: 27
I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman: 102 - bubbling under chart
Overprotected: 86
Boys: 109 - bubbling under chart
*It is important to note that, at the time, Clear Channel radio was boycotting Britney for not adding them as a sponser for her tour. Thus, her lack of radio airplay caused for a lack of higher chart positions.
Without a doubt, her best work
