Why Britney Matters
Why 'Blackout' Is the Most Underappreciated Smash Album of 2007

by Stephen Elliott

It's Britney, b****. That's the opening to the first single released from Blackout, Britney Spears's sex and drugs masterpiece (though the drugs aren't in the lyrics and "masterpiece" is a bit of a stretch).

This album is without a doubt, Britney's best album. Not only is nearly ever song and b-side from this album absolutly PHONOMONAL, but it was a time when Britney was at her best, on top of her game. When I pull out this CD to play today, I just can't help but think of what a HUGE pop star this girl was at the time. This album is also the reason why I'm a Britney fan today. Had I not heard "I'm A Slave 4 U" on the radio or seen the HOT video on MTV, I would never have become a Britney fan. Up until this point I had always seen Ms.

But if anything, the snowball just got bigger. Britney returned with her sophmore EXPLOUSION, Oops! I Did It Again, Mainly working with the same people from the first album, Max Martin, Rami, etc. However, she was able to achieve a much more mature sounding record with hot Euro-beats and romantic love songs. The album also includes a cover of the classic Rolling Stones hit, "I Can't Get No Satisfaction" in which Britney took and totally made it into her own.

This album is defienetly one of Britney's best albums ever IMO. Every track is just amazing in it's own way. Her vocals have grown stronger and more confident and so has she.

It's Britney, b****.

Welcome back, b****.
