Britney was good in the video, but one of the things about it that glares out at me is the lighting. Why is a song about threesomes set in a white room with bright lighting? The lighting and makeup of this video should resemble something like the "Boys" video. It's dark, forbidding, sexy. If Britney would have done the exact same moves and facial expressions in that setting, it may of worked. But I do have to agree with MyownBritney (10/30 @ 11:26PM post): Britney needs her old choreographers back. I understand that Britney can't do as much as she used to (probably because of her knee injury or the strain of having two kids), but there is so much more she could be doing! I love you Brit! I know arguments were made, both in support and against certain ideas, but it was still a conversation. I would like to say that when Dave said "demand more" he did not mean demand that the artists do more, but he meant that they do better. To expect better is not the same as saying someone is talentless, she has already proven that she has the talent, that is why some people expect better. Correct me if I am wrong, but not every song on even the top artist's album is a top ten single, is it? Or even top 100? I say this because doing better is really subjective. Although you can expect better as you see fit for yourself and from others, you really have to be realistic when you talk about what others can do. And this means seeing what the person actually did.

Overprotected is one of my top songs by Brit as well. I seem to always "stand corrected" about a lot of things. Sheesh. I've heard of artists destroying their paintings in a fit of disgust, maybe writers toss their tomes for the same reason, but I have never heard of someone doing well that was tossing their career.

OK, I'll be the first to say nothing is wrong if you don't like a video or an album. These things are subjective and every human is entitled to perceive anything any way they want.
Look at the Madonna Celebration video. Awesome. Was all the dancing on key in sync? No but it works, especially if you look at the fan video, the fans surely weren't on beat but it works.
Sure I was, as I said below, wayyy below, a bit disappointed in the 3 video but it's still a great video. Would I tell the experts who made it how to do their jobs, no. I just have a different perspective on the work.

Drugs? Seriously? Besides medicine? I know anything is possible, but I do not see that, and I have seen that in some of the photo's of models. Facial expressions can say a lot in pictures as well. Drugs are bad, period.
Dance routines. I don't think that you can say she does not follow her routines, unless you know something that I do not. Even in her dance videos, she does some moves but not necessarily all that the others do. I remember this from BOMT. I don't think any artist does all of the moves that their dancers make. They are singing and flowing with the scene. (Dancing slow is an art form, to stay on the beat while moving around can be difficult.)
On stage, or clubbing, I can't comment about that (not even recent videos really). I think tempo plays a part in everything, and who knows the tempo of their music better than the person singing the song? Other than this, you may be right. There is also the human element that you have to take into account. Some people can hear extremely well, and some can be inexplicably loud. Not dancing that fast? Aside from the ephemeral part, when she is dressed in white in the fog, I don't see anything unnatural about her dancing. There was one sort of jerky booty shake, but there were a lot of close-ups so you don't always see her dancing fully.
Two albums. Aside from the possibility of a contract issue, and I don't know if she has a set number of albums to put out, etc., everything should be at her timetable. If they would not work with her could be an issue that I can't really touch.
I hope I don't sound like I am making excuses, but certain questions can be quite repetitive. This can be just as bad as people never being satisfied when you have done so much. Depending on the events surrounding some people at a given point in time, it can be pretty harrowing. This being said, the sooner the dour face appears, the more likely that the questioning alone isn't the problem. The expectation, the colorful set responses could be causing anxiety in and of itself. Maybe even worry about other things could lead to this same effect. Timing can be crucial in certain situations.
britneyfanforever, I voted at least 300 times since I posted, we are doing ok but when Britney gets into the same round with Jay Z the heat will be on! That will be in a week since each round is a week long.
3oh3 is taking a clobbering since our Queen B has 100+ thousand votes over them but the only competition on this entire lineup are the Jay Z fans.

I LOOOOVE BRITNEY VERY MUCH! The anticipation of the release of the "3" video was killing me, but now that I finished watching the video, I started to think?... Is she happy? does she still love to entertain? I went to her concert in NYC this year and her ability to dance is still there. She is able to entertain and more. Me and my 3 yr. old son were dancing the whole time. But this video is not what I expected it to be. Britney is known for her amazing dancing and ability to entertain, and this video was boaring to me. Individuality has been an issue since the Renaissance. Shakespeare is the one who's made it quite clear that the dichotomy between what you do and who you are would haunt us forever. But nowadays, in the postmodern era of fragmentation, this is not an issue anymore; mainly for artists.
My point is, Britney shows an inability to follow dance routines; she can't move her body the way her dancers do and she can't synchronize with them; and she always looks jaded in interviews, or worse, like a robot at times.
There are three possible explanations for these FACTS:
1: she doesn't give a f*** about what she does and simply sells whatever she is in the mood to sell. She knows it will be a success anyway because of us! Hence this crappy video. She has rehearsed what, one or two weeks? Do you know how long it's taken beyonce to do "single ladies"?
2: she's still recovering and on medication. this means that she should be at home, resting, rehearsing, working on her vocals and her dance moves. if she's not well, she shouldn't be forced to perform, record, and the like. would she do any stupid thing just for the money?
3: she can't dance anymore. the drugs have taken this away from her. maybe she only feels confident when on coke. who knows? in this case, which I think is the most probable, she should adopt an edgier look, do something like she did with "you oughtta know". I love that performance; it's real.
Britney should know that we will always be here for her IF AND ONLY IF she does something real, no camera games like in this video for instance (she's not dancing that fast: half of the video is based on editing).
She should come out and be honest. She doesn't have to be perfect, to dance beautifully all the time. But I won't take fraud anymore. It's been 2 records of underestimating us with these horrible videos and no motivation whatsoever... we won't be here forever, not even the most fanatic ones.
I'm not going to say that things have been peachy for Britney, but I really don't think that her ability to dance has disappeared. Motivation is a different matter, but I don't think motivation is the problem either.
I really don't think she is being forced to sing, dance, or perform. Her creative outlet is a part of her and has been for a long time. You can't take certain things away from certain people (although it has been done to a lot of people and from various sources). Some can get tired of "the business," whatever that may entail, but I don't know enough to say that is what she wants.
And yes, I think success breeds its own set of vultures. I have been saying for years, to no one in particular, that things have been getting progressively worse in the world. It is as if everyone is supposed to be interchangeable when our God-given talents are simply that and everyone cannot do well at everything that someone else can do. It is a redundancy - why make individuals if they are not individual? For superstars, you kind of expect to meet those that mean you ill-will more than those that want you to do well. But now it is those that do not have the fame or accolades that are enduring the same thing, although they have talent. It is as if people are being drained, they have to give and give and give, but they are not getting anything in return, not substantial, and that only drains them without renewal of that source, of their spirit. I keep saying that even babies smile from birth, but it seems that everything is meant to destroy our ability to do even that.
And yes, anyone with eyes would notice your other point. Not the reaction though.

I saw the video online, and with all the starts and stops, I was just a bit puzzled by what the video was about. It is nice to see lots of Britney, and it is different from a lot of videos out today. I almost thought that part of the video was related to the "Fantasy" advertisement, probably only because of the white outfit.
I think the only thing that people are disturbed about is that it is not purely about making a video, nor practicing one's moves, nor purely about some other focal point that people get easily. It is about Britney singing "3" and dancing to it. And perhaps we can associate different things to what we did see, her (I think) three outfits may lead to certain thoughts or implications, the three different "groups" that she danced with (to include alone) too, but it was interesting all the same.
Dancing is a challenge, the unchoreographed variety, or even the semi variety, because we always dance how we feel. Sometimes it is hard and with an edge, sometimes it is sensual, sometimes it is vibrant, sometimes it is controlled, and sometimes we have to wonder what should be done next. (Even dancing with friends can happen when you are out clubbing, unofficial choreography) (If you entered the Dance Jam contest, you know what I am talking about. The videos ran the gambit of these scenarios. Who won that, anyway? A question for Britannica????)

Dance routines. I don't think that you can say she does not follow her routines, unless you know something that I do not. Even in her dance videos, she does some moves but not necessarily all that the others do. I remember this from BOMT. I don't think any artist does all of the moves that their dancers make. They are singing and flowing with the scene. (Dancing slow is an art form, to stay on the beat while moving around can be difficult.)
On stage, or clubbing, I can't comment about that (not even recent videos really). I think tempo plays a part in everything, and who knows the tempo of their music better than the person singing the song? Other than this, you may be right. There is also the human element that you have to take into account. Some people can hear extremely well, and some can be inexplicably loud. Not dancing that fast? Aside from the ephemeral part, when she is dressed in white in the fog, I don't see anything unnatural about her dancing. There was one sort of jerky booty shake, but there were a lot of close-ups so you don't always see her dancing fully.
Two albums. Aside from the possibility of a contract issue, and I don't know if she has a set number of albums to put out, etc., everything should be at her timetable. If they would not work with her could be an issue that I can't really touch.
I hope I don't sound like I am making excuses, but certain questions can be quite repetitive. This can be just as bad as people never being satisfied when you have done so much. Depending on the events surrounding some people at a given point in time, it can be pretty harrowing. This being said, the sooner the dour face appears, the more likely that the questioning alone isn't the problem. The expectation, the colorful set responses could be causing anxiety in and of itself. Maybe even worry about other things could lead to this same effect. Timing can be crucial in certain situations.

I LOOOOVE BRITNEY VERY MUCH! The anticipation of the release of the "3" video was killing me, but now that I finished watching the video, I started to think?... Is she happy? does she still love to entertain? I went to her concert in NYC this year and her ability to dance is still there. She is able to entertain and more. Me and my 3 yr. old son were dancing the whole time. But this video is not what I expected it to be. Britney is known for her amazing dancing and ability to entertain, and this video was boaring to me. I STILL LOVE the SONG and LOVE Britney, but I wish that she can somehow concentrate on HERSELF & her LIFE. HER TRUE FANS will always remain, and I for one will always be here.

Individuality has been an issue since the Renaissance. Shakespeare is the one who's made it quite clear that the dichotomy between what you do and who you are would haunt us forever. But nowadays, in the postmodern era of fragmentation, this is not an issue anymore; mainly for artists.
My point is, Britney shows an inability to follow dance routines; she can't move her body the way her dancers do and she can't synchronize with them; and she always looks jaded in interviews, or worse, like a robot at times.
There are three possible explanations for these FACTS:
1: she doesn't give a f*** about what she does and simply sells whatever she is in the mood to sell. She knows it will be a success anyway because of us! Hence this crappy video. She has rehearsed what, one or two weeks? Do you know how long it's taken beyonce to do "single ladies"?
2: she's still recovering and on medication. this means that she should be at home, resting, rehearsing, working on her vocals and her dance moves. if she's not well, she shouldn't be forced to perform, record, and the like. would she do any stupid thing just for the money?
3: she can't dance anymore. the drugs have taken this away from her. maybe she only feels confident when on coke. who knows? in this case, which I think is the most probable, she should adopt an edgier look, do something like she did with "you oughtta know". I love that performance; it's real.
Britney should know that we will always be here for her IF AND ONLY IF she does something real, no camera games like in this video for instance (she's not dancing that fast: half of the video is based on editing).
She should come out and be honest. She doesn't have to be perfect, to dance beautifully all the time. But I won't take fraud anymore. It's been 2 records of underestimating us with these horrible videos and no motivation whatsoever... we won't be here forever, not even the most fanatic ones.

I'm not going to say that things have been peachy for Britney, but I really don't think that her ability to dance has disappeared. Motivation is a different matter, but I don't think motivation is the problem either.
I really don't think she is being forced to sing, dance, or perform. Her creative outlet is a part of her and has been for a long time. You can't take certain things away from certain people (although it has been done to a lot of people and from various sources). Some can get tired of "the business," whatever that may entail, but I don't know enough to say that is what she wants.
And yes, I think success breeds its own set of vultures. I have been saying for years, to no one in particular, that things have been getting progressively worse in the world. It is as if everyone is supposed to be interchangeable when our God-given talents are simply that and everyone cannot do well at everything that someone else can do. It is a redundancy - why make individuals if they are not individual? For superstars, you kind of expect to meet those that mean you ill-will more than those that want you to do well. But now it is those that do not have the fame or accolades that are enduring the same thing, although they have talent. It is as if people are being drained, they have to give and give and give, but they are not getting anything in return, not substantial, and that only drains them without renewal of that source, of their spirit. I keep saying that even babies smile from birth, but it seems that everything is meant to destroy our ability to do even that.
And yes, anyone with eyes would notice your other point. Not the reaction though.

It was one of her better videos in a long time, the choreography could have been better, but it was very high energy and entertaining. Overall a success.

Curious (again)
I saw the video online, and with all the starts and stops, I was just a bit puzzled by what the video was about. It is nice to see lots of Britney, and it is different from a lot of videos out today. I almost thought that part of the video was related to the "Fantasy" advertisement, probably only because of the white outfit.
I think the only thing that people are disturbed about is that it is not purely about making a video, nor practicing one's moves, nor purely about some other focal point that people get easily. It is about Britney singing "3" and dancing to it. And perhaps we can associate different things to what we did see, her (I think) three outfits may lead to certain thoughts or implications, the three different "groups" that she danced with (to include alone) too, but it was interesting all the same.
Dancing is a challenge, the unchoreographed variety, or even the semi variety, because we always dance how we feel. Sometimes it is hard and with an edge, sometimes it is sensual, sometimes it is vibrant, sometimes it is controlled, and sometimes we have to wonder what should be done next. (Even dancing with friends can happen when you are out clubbing, unofficial choreography) (If you entered the Dance Jam contest, you know what I am talking about. The videos ran the gambit of these scenarios. Who won that, anyway? A question for Britannica????)
